This is a poster expressing the dual meaning that the space where the exhibition is held is a bookstore and that artworks are about reading the message given by the butterfly.

전시가 열리는 공간이 책방이라는 것과 나비가 주는 메시지를 읽어내는 작업이라는 점을 중의적으로 표현한 포스터입니다.

■ Introduction to Exhibition

Pionara is a visual artist showing ideas through various genres. In this exhibition, Pionara exhibits butterfly artworks made of real butterfly specimens, interpreting and shaping the message given by butterflies through their shape and pattern.

■ Artist statement

It was the beginning of this work that I saw the butterfly with its owl-eyed pattern wings. I was so impressed because it was not common to see the pattern that imitated other animals in such a bold and intense way, though many creatures in nature have elements that mimic the surrounding environment. Actually, it was like, 'I am not a butterfly. Look at me as an owl. '

Since butterfly is relatively weak and powerless in the animal world, they have the fate of living in pretending to be other rather than being seen as the true self, the butterfly itself, which made me feel pity and homogeneous in that it's also the same with human pretending to be strong for more power or to be weak for safety instead of living as we are.

On the other hand, at the same time, it also looked dramatic because it seemed to express longing for another being and the dream to be like them through their whole body. Since then, whenever I see the butterfly, I read the message that the butterfly gives with its body, wondering 'What would this butterfly-like to be seen as?'.

These are the artworks interpreting and shaping the butterfly's message given by Its form and pattern of wings from my subjective point of view. In a tiny insect cabinet, with their small-sized body and fragile wings, butterflies invite greater beings and stories than themselves.

* All butterfly artworks do not color or deform a butterfly itself.
All work also functions as an insect cabinet that allows you to see the original look of the butterfly.

■ 전시 소개

Pionara는 다양한 시각예술 장르를 통해 아이디어를 표현해왔습니다.이번 전시에서는 실제의 나비를 소재.주제.재료 삼아 나비가 자신의 형태와 무늬로 주는 메시지를 주관적인 관점에서 해석하고 형상화시키는 작업들을 선보입니다.

■ 작가노트

처음 부엉이 눈 무늬가 있는 나비를 본 것이 이 작업의 시작이었습니다. 많은 자연의 생물이 보호색 등의 주변 환경을 모방하는 요소를 가지고 있지만이토록 대담하고 강렬하게 다른 동물을 모방하는 무늬는 흔치 않았기에 흥미로웠습니다. 마치 ‘나는 나비가 아니다. 나를 부엉이로 봐라’라고 말하는 것 같았습니다.

동물의 세계에서 상대적으로 약하고 힘이 없는 존재이기에 진정한 그 자신, 나비 그 자체로 보여지기 보다는 평생 다른 존재인 척하며 살아가는 그들의 숙명이 가여우면서도 동질감을 느끼게 했습니다. 있는 그대로의 모습으로 살아가기 보다는 더 강한 척해서 힘을 얻거나 혹은 자신을 드러내지 않고 다른 사람들 속에 묻혀 안전을 도모하는 것은 사람들도 마찬가지니까요. 또 한편으로는 또 다른 존재에 대한 동경과 그와 같이 되는 꿈을 온 몸으로 표현하는 것 같아 드라마틱하게 느껴지기도 했습니다.

그 후로 나비를 볼 때 나비가 자신의 몸으로 주는 메시지를 저 나름대로 읽어보기 시작했습니다.‘이 나비는 어떤 존재로 보여지고 싶은 걸까?’ 하면서요. 나비가 자신의 형태와 무늬로 주는 메시지를 주관적인 관점에서 해석하고 그 해석을 형상화시키는 작업들입니다.나비는 작은 표본 상자 속에서 조그만 몸집과 연약한 날개로 자신보다 훨씬 큰 존재들과 그들의 이야기를 불러들입니다.

*모든 나비 작업은 나비 자체에 색을 칠하거나 변형을 가하지 않습니다.

모든 작업은 나비 원래의 온전한 모습을 볼 수 있는 표본 액자로도 기능합니다.
